Modalities
have changed in Infrastructure Financing |
The modalities for the financing of infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa have changed considerably over recent years. It is imperative that those involved in the implementation of these projects take cognisance of the changes and develop a sound understanding of the varying financial instruments. |

Information
on Formal Procedures |
In addition to the more conventional public sector contracts funded by the donors such as the World Bank and African Development Bank, we have seen the advent of specialised funds targeting infrastructure programmes and projects in our continent. There has also been a concerted effort to promote Public-Private-Partnerships and a number of initiatives falling under this category have evolved for example in the power and water sectors. The role of the development finance institutions such as the DEG of Germany has been widened to include technical assistance that will bring proposed projects to bankability. In Nigeria, the financial services sector is being broadened to harness pension and insurance funds for developmental services. A number of new role players have developed a market presence in Africa's infrastructure development such as the Eximbanks of China and India. This conference will provide its delegates with not only the formal procedures of the various funding agencies but will also provide valuable and practical insights that will facilitate entry into their project cycles. It is fair to say that the African business community needs to improve its knowledge and understanding of those who finance and assist with African infrastructure projects and this important event will go some way in capacitating delegates for improving their project "hit rates". |
